Monday Morning Hit Me Like….

After another weekend of high intensity college lacrosse, big score performances and shocking losses, we find ourselves once again getting smacked in the face by Monday morning.

New Number One? Last week’s #1 Yale Bulldogs pulled out and 11-10 OT win against Ivy League opponent Penn. #2 Notre Dame went into the Carrier Dome gun’s blazing on Saturday evening handling the Orange in a 17-7 victory. Brown continued to put up big numbers as the nation’s most potent offense by beating Princeton 19-8. Don’t be surprised if the Bears from Brown receive more votes, but look for the Fighting Irish to claim the number one spot in the USILA Division 1 Men’s rankings.

OT Thriller: Friday evening’s rivalry matchup between Duke and UNC was nothing less than exciting. A crowd of close to 4,000 fans filled Koskinen Stadium in Durham where Duke was handed an Overtime loss from the Tar Heels. The loss clouded Myles Jones career high 11 points (5g, 6a) for the Blue Devils, who was denied the chance to win the game with a shot in overtime.

Most Shocking: Villanova’s 3-11 loss to Marquette. Coach Joe Amplo really has things turned up in Milwaukee where the Golden Eagles scored Saturday’s first 7 goals of the game before ‘Nova answered a minute before halftime. The nation’s leading scorer was held goalless on the day by sophomore Cole Blazer who made 13 saves in his first start of the season.

Conference Grudgematches: Two Big Ten Battles on BIG stages. Maryland headed to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan in a snowy Saturday evening affair where Maryland squeaked out an 8-7 victory. Penn State pulled out a 6-5 win at the Horeshoe in Sunday’s showdown with Ohio state. Goalie Will Schreiner put the Nittany Lions on his back with his 15 save performance (5GA, .75% Save).
